UK Wedding Trends: Purple, Festival Weddings and Wellies

Depending on the size of your beach wedding, whether you pay for guests to join you on that exotic island or whether it's a small group of family and friends who pay for themselves, beach weddings generally are less expensive than a traditional white wedding.

Make sure your beach wedding gown is the right length

A traditional bridal dress generally hits the floor and has a train this isn't going to work on a sandy beach. If you still want a long dress make sure it stops around your ankles. This will help keep you cool as well as not getting in the way when you walk along the beach and getting stained by the sand. Depending on your style and your personal preference it's perfectly acceptable to wear a shorter dress on the beach, if you want to show of you legs opt for something above the knee if you feel like your legs aren't worthy of being shown off then try a calf or ankle length dress.

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise
Wedding Price Tag: $2 Million

These two superstars married in 2006 and spent a pretty penny to do so. They bypassed the concept of hiring a corporate limo to take them to the church and instead opted to get married in a 15th Century castle in the middle of Italy. Katie and her bridal party were outfitted in Georgio Armani dresses designed specifically for her wedding and the couple entertained their guests by having Andrea Boccelli perform live. Over the top? We think so but we're sure the couple and their guests had a great time.

Red is a color that is associated with Valentine's Day, and therefore February weddings. Kind of like the hearts and cupids, red for a February wedding can feel rather unoriginal. This is not to say that you shouldn't use red at all in your wedding design, if it is a color that appeals to you. Just keep it in moderation, and mix it with colors beyond white.

One way to use red is to tone it down with brown. The effect is very rich and sophisticated, making it perfect for an elegant evening winter wedding. You can have your bridesmaids dress in brown dresses, accented by rich red sashes and garnet colored crystal bridesmaid jewelry. For a rich alternative to red, you could consider using deep purple accents with the brown palette. Amethyst is the February birthstone, and regal purple crystals would make beautiful bridesmaid jewelry for your attendants.
